It is up to 1 km wide wide in some places and is navigable to the gorges of Bemaraha .

He is known to play a central role during the "Relics Bath", or Fitampoha , a ceremony sacred practiced by the ethnic group sakalava taking place every ten years.

He crosses the Bongolava and the Bemaraha

The descent of the river by canoe is one of the main tourist attractions of the country. Boarding is done on the river Mahajilo at the edge of the city Miandrivazo . After 30km this river flows into the Tsiribihina. The river banks are lined with a jungle lush, where you can observe crocodiles, turtles, chameleons, lemurs and other exotic flora and fauna.
