The Anja Community Reserve has been a protected nature reserve since 1999 in accordance with Malagasy law. It extends over 30 Ha and is located 13 km south of Ambalavao, along the RN7. This protected area was created on the initiative of the local village community for the protection of the environment. The reserve is managed by a local association which has been able to maintain its independence from that which manages the large national parks of Madagascar.
